Volunteers
Radley Village Shop relies on the efforts of its volunteers to keep the Shop running in support of the community. New recruits are always welcome to join the team of around 40-50 volunteers who either serve in the shop or help in other ways. There’s no need for previous experience of working in a shop as full training is given.
Do you have time on your hands? Want to learn new skills or refresh those you have? Becoming a Shop volunteer is a good way to get to know people in Radley and to make a difference in village life. There are always opportunities to help out, whether by serving at the till or carrying out other important retail tasks (admin, IT, finance, marketing). Regular newsletters help keep everyone up-to-date with what’s happening in the shop.
The rota is run by the Rota Manager (rota@radleyvillageshop.com) with two people allocated to each shift. Our shifts vary slightly in length but are around 3 hours long, covering seven days a week. There are four shifts on a weekday, two on a Saturday and two on a Sunday. Some people opt to take on a regular weekly or fortnightly shift. Others sign up to work an unfilled shift when they can.

Many of the volunteers enjoy meeting other villagers. One volunteer commented:
“It’s great to have a shop in the village and I find it uplifting being involved. I had never worked in a shop before. My initial feelings of apprehension soon passed, as everyone was so supportive. I enjoy my weekly shift; meeting people, learning new skills and working in such a friendly atmosphere.”
